Congratulations to these 25 DHS students who recently earned the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy for demonstrating proficiency in English and another language. 24 earned their Seal in English and Spanish and completed 4 years of Spanish. We also have our first student to receive the Seal in English and Marshallese. This is a huge accomplishment that will follow them throughout their adult career. “I am beyond proud of our program that Mrs. Esther Hendershot and I have been building. We are right up there with some of the larger school districts in our state with how many students we have that have earned the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy. It is a great achievement.”

The Seal of Biliteracy is now recognized in ALL 50 states and Washington, D.C. According to the official website, “the Seal of Biliteracy encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices.” The pilot program began in Arkansas in the state’s largest school districts, and Mrs. Moore’s level 4 students took their first test in the spring of 2019 and have successfully done so every year since.

Mrs. Moore pointed out that the Spanish proficiency exam is similar to the English proficiency exams our students take in school, and it is not guaranteed that a student will pass if he/she speaks Spanish. Again, Congratulations to these accomplished young men and women!
