The 2023 De Queen High School Teacher of the Year is District Communications Director and DQTV Instructor Beau McCastlain, known around DHS as “Coach Mac”. Coach Mac puts his heart and soul into the DQTV program. His expertise, leadership, dedication, and passion for this program have made it successful! DQTV students praise Coach Mac for “coaching” them to be their best and being great role models in their life.
DHS Principal Audrey Chandler said, “He goes above and beyond for all of our students, teachers, the community, and me! I am very proud that he’s our teacher of the year!”
DHS Counselor Sally Hennard stated, “Beau has brought so much to our high school! Under his leadership, I’ve seen students gain confidence and skills that will benefit them for life!”
The 1996 DHS graduate returned to the Leopard Family in 2011 and spent the next eight years serving as the Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Football Coach while teaching Civics at De Queen Junior High. In 2020, Coach McCastlain moved into his current role as Communications Director and teacher of the DQTV program at DHS. He says the new role is a perfect fit for him because it allows him the opportunity to help share the positive stories of our Leopard Family and continue to “coach kids up” as they develop into young adults.
“I want to say a very sincere thank you to the DHS Faculty. I am honored and very humbled to have been named the DHS Teacher of the Year,” said McCastlain. “It’s a faculty full of great teachers who are much more deserving than me. I would also like to send a big thank you to all of my awesome students. DQTV has developed into a great success because of their engagement, commitment, and hard work. We have amazing kids and I am blessed to be in a position that allows me to work with them each day.”
